In this article we introduce SIGnature Ultra Protect, our CCPI assessed (008570108/1126), complete cold applied liquid roof waterproofing system, and answer some of your common questions.
What is SIGnature Ultra Protect?
SIGnature Ultra Protect is cold applied liquid waterproofing system based on polyurethane (PU) technology. It is a complete roof waterproofing system which can be used for new build or refurbishment projects with advantages for both large and small projects, including roofs with complex details.
The tried and tested polyurethane technology provides the reassurance of a long-lasting roof, supported by BBA certificates, assessed to provide service lives of at least 20 and at least 25 years.
Why use a polyurethane cold applied liquid roof system?
No hot works
Cold applied liquids are waterproofing systems that are applied cold, i.e. without hot works. Polyurethane is a cold applied technology used since the 1960s, which is applied to the roof with a roller and cures in contact with the air.
Durability
Cold applied liquid PU waterproofing is applied straight from the can, and cures in 6-12 hours. Once cured the elastomeric properties of the PU allow it to withstand cracking and make it durable.
Seamless
Cold applied liquid roofing systems can, when properly applied, waterproof complex junctions, upstands and penetrations. SIGnature Ultra Protect is a two- or three-coat system depending on the warranty requirements.
What distinguishes SIGnature Ultra Protect from other PU systems?
Seamless aesthetic
Two-coat PU systems conventionally use a polyester reinforced layer between the top and base coat, and 75mm overlaps create visible lines in the finished waterproofing. SIGnature Ultra Protect is different as it uses a Chopped Strand Mat (CSM) as a reinforcement layer, applied onto the wet base coat.
The components of the SIGnature Ultra Protect Liquid Waterproofing cause the CSM to break down into individual fibres once it is applied, reducing the risk of creasing, and ensuring each run of matting is readily incorporated. Whilst a minimum 50mm overlap is still required, the finished result is that no significant lines are visible once the curing is complete, providing a smooth, flexible finish.
Length of Warranties and Service Life
SIGnature Ultra Protect has been awarded BBA Agrément Certificates for both 20- and 25-year system options (BBA Agrément Certificate 22/5994 Product Sheets 1 and 2). This provides the professional contractor, architect or specifier, and the building owner the reassurance they demand.
Fire Tested to BROOF(t4)
Independent and rigorous testing in accordance with EN 13501-5: shows that SIGnature Ultra Protect achieves a BROOF(t4) fire rating once installed, tested for both sloped and flat formats.
Colour Options
SIGnature Ultra Protect has Light Grey and Dark Grey colours available to aid the application of the liquid waterproofing components to suit the required Warranty period. For example, Light Grey Base Coat with Dark Grey top coat for the 20 year warranty system and Dark Grey Base coat, followed by Light Grey coating, with Dark Grey final coating for the 25 year Warranty period.

- Concrete
- PVC Single Ply
- Metals
Some of these substrates require the use of the appropriate SIGnature Ultra Protect Primer – speak to us for more information.
With the addition of SIGnature Ultra Protect approved AVCL Carrier Membrane, it can also be used on other substrates such as:
- OSB3
- Suitable Ply
- Other timber substrates
- Tissue Faced Insulation Boards
When SIGnature Ultra Protect AVCL is used as a carrier membrane a primer is not required.
