Training roofers on how to install roofing systems is one thing, but we don’t train them on how to install vapour control layers and insulation.
Badly instaled VCL,s and insulation can be more devasting than a roof leak. I receive numerous calls in a year from roofers that don’t understand the importance of the VCL and thermal bridging through badly installed insulation. Put both of these problems together, and you have a disaster.

U-Value is an important consideration which demonstrates a level of technical understanding when roofers use it in a professional manner. Whereas the customer may only be concerned about the appearance of the roof and the quality of its drainage systems, insulation is a key factor that they would regret not thinking about come winter, if the U-value had not been taken into consideration. Overall a great in-depth interview that shows real knowledge.

Steven is absolutley right, we undertake leak detection surveys time and time again where the insulation has been installed incorectly – penetrating the VCL and large gaps within the insulation causing cold bridging are not uncommon. It is also vital to understand the specifications of OPTIM-R such as its unique properties and method of installation.
