Our customer support team at AccuRoof is truly vital to our success. Their dedication and hard work make all the difference in helping our customers and building strong relationships.
Tom has worked in construction sales in central London since leaving university in 2014.
Following the completion of his degree in Business Management and Law, Tom joined Marley Eternit, who were seeking a graduate to join its pitched roofing account management team. After three years, he was approached by BMI/Icopal and moved to work in flat roofing for the next three years. With two further roles in construction and a year of travelling under his belt, he is now settled in his role at AccuRoof as a regional specification manager covering central London.
Unlike his colleagues covering other areas of the UK, Tom’s role is almost entirely focused on advising architects and assisting with roofing specifications. There are not many contractors based in his patch, as they tend to travel into central London to do the work, but he does have more architectural practices per square mile in his area than anywhere else in Europe. This enables Tom to get involved in a project at the very early concept design stages, and once the specification is in place, it’s all about keeping in touch for the duration of the project, as some may take up to 3 years to come to fruition.
Tom delivers an extensive range of Continual Personal Development (CPD) training on new roofing product solutions and legislative changes, and he shares this with architects to broaden his network of contacts. He uses an analogy to explain how he can help with the design process:
“I think of architects being like GPs. They know an awful lot, and they call on me as the flat roofing specialist to help them choose the right waterproofing solution for a particular project. It helps that we are a distributor and not a manufacturer, so we can offer agnostic, impartial advice. There has been a growing amount of legislation to comply with, particularly in recent years and especially in flat roofing. We can help with compliance and warranties, all helping to finalise the correct specification to suit the project.”
With 12 years of experience behind him, he understands the market and has the backing of an excellent technical team at AccuRoof to discuss solutions with, as well as a pool of knowledgeable suppliers. There are many legislative changes in his area, especially since Grenfell, including the new Building Safety Act and BROOFt4. This is where the team from AccuRoof excels, guiding their customers through legislation to ensure compliance.
Last word from Tom: “I enjoy my work and think it is an important job, ensuring that the buildings I work on, whether they be offices, schools, hospitals or residential projects, are watertight. I like helping people, and architects now call me in as the roofing specialist to help them provide the best compliant solution. I also think the people who work in roofing are genuine and straight-talking. This makes for a more enjoyable industry workplace too.”
On Toms little-known fact, promoted on LinkedIn: “I’ve had a UK number 1 hit single”
‘Never Had a Dream Come True’ by pop group S Club 7 was released as a single in the UK on November 27, 2000. It served as the official 2000 BBC Children in Need charity single and eventually reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. Tom Ward was one of the school children who sang on the B-side of this hit single.
