The 2024 Pitched Roofing Awards will be awarded in November, and we’re delighted that projects associated with AccuRoof and its sister companies feature heavily.
The nominated projects give an insight into the wide range of pitched roofing projects we work on:
Museum of London
The London Museum at Smithfield (the new name and home for Museum of London), where SIG Hard Metals supplied the Copper for the re-roofing of the historic single span shell concrete, domed Poultry Market roof, is shortlisted for:
- Best use of a heritage roof
- Best use of hard metals
Specialist roofing and cladding contractor Full Metal Jacket Limited stripped the existing copper and screed roofing of the 70m by 40m shell roof down to the original concrete. They then rescreeded with lightweight screeds, reinsulated with non-combustible insulation and installed a brand new KME natural copper roof in a combination of standing seam and batten roll, all handmade by experienced coppersmiths. SIG also supplied the membranes for this project.
Lucent W1
Lucent W1, which combined our skills with slate, zinc and hot melt flat roofing into one amazing project has three nominations:
- Best use of a heritage roof
- Best use of slate for a commercial project
- Sustainable project of the year
The design challenges on this project were many and included coordinating the interfaces between slate, hot melt and zinc, something that the AccuRoof team is particularly well positioned to achieve.
AccuRoof’s status as part of SIG Roofing was another essential element of this project’s success. The materials were supplied through SIG Roofing’s extensive supply chain, via its Kentish Town outlet and a separate holding area near the site. They were then craned onto site as needed, though the crane had to be dismantled part way through the roofing package due to the tight programme. The team worked together to ensure that all 28,000 natural slates were stored on top of the building weeks before their installation.
Lucent W1 has already won a National Roofing Award. It was a collaborative venture between AccuRoof, roofing contractor E J Roberts and main contractor Wates Group. You can read all about how it was done here.
Cottage Reroofing in Zinc
Clynogg Cottage, where SIG Hard Metals supplied the VMZINC Pigmento Red for the roof, picture window and matching rainwater goods is shortlisted for
- Best use of hard metals
This attractive historic stone holiday cottage in Anglesey underwent a full refurbishment. The installation of a new zinc roof replaced the original slate one and was carried out by Longworth Hard Metals.
Aled Williams Outstanding Contribution
We are delighted to hear that Aled Williams, Development Director for Natural Slate for SIG UK Exteriors and part of the AccuRoof slate team, has been nominated for an award for outstanding contribution to the industry. We wish him all the best for the award, though he’s already a winner in our eyes!
Other Awards
Our parent company SIG Roofing also supplied four other nominated projects in three categories:
- Best use of concrete or clay tiles for a commercial project (Thames Ditton Infant School)
- Best use of concrete or clay tiles for a domestic project (Moat Barn and Trimley House)
